Coinflip Situation in Texas Hold’em – Do I really want to be in this type of situation in a Texas Hold’em Tournament?

Conflicted situations in Texas Holdem, or as I like referring to ‘Coin-flip situations’ are a good way for getting your self eliminated from a Texas Hold’em tournament. For instance – pushing all in with a hand like AK , AQ preflop before the cards are even dealt. In this case the odds stands on 50-55% for winning or losing those hands, so is it worth PUSHING all in everytime?

In this case the answer is no. There are much better odds to play with and in any case pushing all in when the final round of dealing hasn’t been finished yet is a bad idea. The better alternative in a situation like this is to stay in the game and try to push somebody else out of the tournament.

Another coin flip situation is when the blind are 20/40 and you are dealt AQ, you raise with 3000 chips behind you and someone goes all in. In this case the best strategy is to fold.

Before you start assuming that this writer is a cowered that preaches on folding or keeping it low i’ll give an example of a situation where pushing all in will be the best option – if the blinds are 100/200 and you have 1200 chips and the same situation happens, then yes it is time to push.

Basically what you should remember is – never have too many of your chips at risk if you do not have to and never play out of frustration or an adrenaline rush. Be patient!

Patience is one of the most needed traits as a player. You can sit in cash poker tournaments for over an hour and do nothing but fold. There is nothing you can do and you should not force yourself to make moves in a tournament.
